Paper Cup Air Cannon

This activity is a simple set of instructions for building an "air cannon" from a paper cup and a balloon or rubber glove. It's a miniature version of the larger air cannon I use in some of my classes to demonstrate vortex motion... a fun science toy, too!

My sister has three kids. She is always looking for cool teaching opportunities because her daughter is home-schooled. I didn't realize you could make a mini air cannon out of a paper cup and rubber glove. That seems like a really cool activity.

I'm glad you found this idea helpful! When I've used this with young kids, they really get engaged and ask some great questions about ways to modify the design. Because the materials are so cheap, this makes a great engineer-build-test-redesign activity.
